Lalguan Mahadeva Temple

Description

This temple is situated around 603 meters west of Chausath yogini temple and surrounded by agricultural fields. In front of this temple an old pond was situated which was known as Lalguansagar. In present time a staircase is situated in front of this temple which shows that there was a way towards the pond. This temple is made of granite stone partially little sandstone is also used building this temple. This temple is very much similar to the Brahma temple of Khajuraho. This temple faces west and it stands on a platform of around 8 feet.  This temple is bears very less ornamentation, the door jamb of the temple is plain. A small Nandi is situated in front of the temple, The shikhara of the temple is pyramidal. The sanctum of the temple has no idol and no ornamentation inside. Originally in this temple had two architectural components, sanctum and portico. In Khajuraho it is also one of two temples which face west. This temple is dated back to 9th century CE.
